June 18th 2007 saw Stromness welcome a party of South Korean journalists as part of Ballantine's Whisky promotion and four pros representing Scotland & South Korea for a friendly match. A large crowd followed the pros round the course and despite never having seen the course nor any practice the golf on display was of the highest quality.
As they were playing fourball, only an estimate on scores by the individuals could be done but best guess is: Sandy 62, Dean 63, Kim 66 & Shin 68 with Scotland winning the match 2&1.
Despite find the greens a lot slower, smaller & harder than they are used too the pros all enjoyed the round and and one point compared the rough to US Open standard - so that explains all our members high scores!
All four pros were also made honorary members of the club with certificates been presented on the first tee. So Stromness now has a double major winner in its membership! Shame he never made our Wilson Cup team...
Thanks go everyone at Ballantine's for arranging this match along with everyone involved in the club for organising the event, caddying & marshalling. Thanks also to all the spectators who added a great atmosphere to the night and to all our guest who played. It was 'Brrrrrrrilliant' as JP would say!
